Now that the lock retainer is removed, look inside and see the yellow lock engaging the pin; property them in. This picture shows the 2d and fifth lock retainers removed.

Every pivot has a lock. The black lock retainer forces the locks agains the pins. When information technology is removed the locks can be moved out of the style so the pin can exist removed out the back(by pulling on the wire.) To remove the elevation pin slide the tip of the screwdriver against the bottom of the upper pin until it hits the lock.

Pry the lock down, away from the pin, and pull on the wire to remove the pin. Exercise not pull the wire extremely hard, the pin should come out with minimal effort if the lock has been fully disengaged. Otherwise you'll just pause the wire or connector. It may take a few tries to pry the lock down far enough to let go of the pin. Also, don't pull the wire before you pry the lock downwards, considering pulling on the wire locks the lock into the pin. (I pushed the wire into the connector but a tad and so used the screwdriver to pry the lock down and then pulled on the wire.)

Information technology is extremely difficult to go the original wire out of the pivot, and so I recommend yous not mangle the pin upward by trying. But pry open the tangs that are clamped onto the insulation and then put your wire nether information technology and clench the tangs downward with your wire in there.

Since I was doing the DSMLink clutch-cut wire install, I had to completely remove the original wire as per DSMLink instructions. I broke the original wire off at the pivot and installed my own wire.

In this moving-picture show you will see that I doubled the wire over within the pin. I did this to reduce the wire being inadvertently pulled out and information technology gave the tangs more than to clench onto. Angle the tangs more than necessary and bending them repeatedly will fatigue them and they will interruption off, and then be careful.

If y'all decide to double over the wire like I did, make sure that you make the loop small because if it is too long it will interfere with the lock when you reassemble the pivot into the connector.

Finally observe the orientation of the other pins and insert your pin correctly into the connector.

The event is a nice, manufacturing plant-looking, clean install; no splices, electrical tape, etc. You will run into that I looped the original wire back into the harness embrace and zip tied the whole assembly to reduce the likelyhood of any extra stress on the wires when I install the ECU and so work it back into the place it goes.

I as well added a wire to the pivot direct to the left of the orange wire I installed in this "How-to."(That one is for the knock light I installed months ago.) I bet you didn't even notice until I mentioned it considering of the clean look.

I hope this helps at least SOME people, and remember most connectors have replaceable pins. The clutch switch has a rear-release lock(put screwdriver in next to wire and then pull wire to remove pin. That connector has standard blade/socket connectors. But remove the insulation on whatever socket, crimp it on a wire, and install into connector in identify of original(or whatsoever your process calls for.)

If this info helps you I'd be glad to hear about it. Please feel free to PM me and let me know you thought this was a good tech article or not.

Extra pics: ane ,2 ,3 ,4 ,5 ,half-dozen

Practiced luck,
-Jesse

The 2G connector works slightly different.

Rather than the black locks for each set of pins like the 1G connector, the 2G connector has a peak and bottom lock on the back of the connectors you take to open up first.

Then you insert a flat blade jewelers screwdriver into the front of the connector, slide it forth the summit of the and lift upwardly the retaining pivot to release the wire and pull it out the back.

Or, if you plan on doing this job more than once, GM makes the Calculator Command Control Wire Final Removers kit (CCC Kit), and Snap-On has the TT600 kit. Both are expensive, of course. And sadly, there doesn't seem to be a supplier for the near necessary accessory for this job, which is arms like a spider monkey. Two sets.

Interesting set up of tools just as much every bit I like buying tools this much cheaper solution is all that's required. Information technology'southward only $vi. Click on the picture. (Edit: Sadly Radio Shack isn't an option for most of the states anymore so the link to a cheap screwdriver set up no longer works. Hither's something shut from Amazon )

I'm not sure what year they changed the connector styles, merely my '99 has different connectors than the ones Steve posted in mail service vii. Instead of having meridian and lesser locks, they have an integrated lock. The lock is the white portion on the connector. Earlier yous can remove pins, y'all beginning must raise the lock with a pocket-size screwdriver.

The images are missing from the start of the thread. You tin can refer to these when reading jesepes posts.

Since I'm removing the top pin, first remove the block pin retainer lock.
Then sliding the ane/16" flat caput screwdriver in betwixt the two pins I gently push button the pin retainer downwardly from the top pin and while belongings information technology off the pin pull on the wire from the back.

In that concluding few pictures you can see the plastic pivot servant in the connector once the pivot has been removed.
